Dates

  • The CANIS Hackathon will take place from 17th November 2023, starting at 2 PM, and continue for 72 hours until the 20th November.
  • The event is orgnized on our Discord Server (join: https://discord.gg/E23AEr4m6N )

Eligibility

  • Teams should consist of a maximum of four members.
  • All prizes are to be shared equally among team members.
  • Teams must comprise individuals who are not organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, or in any privileged position at the event.
  • Teams are allowed to seek advice and support from organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and others.
  • All work on a project should be completed during the hackathon.
  • Teams are permitted to use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in their projects.
  • Organizers reserve the right to disqualify teams for various reasons, such as breaking competition rules, violating the CANIS Hackathon code of conduct, or engaging in unsportsmanlike behavior.

Project and Submission Requirements

  • Teams are required to submit a presentation that may consist of slides, interactive dashboards, or other visual aids, highlighting their findings and insights.
  • A brief summary of the analysis methodology, including tools and techniques used, should be included in the submission.
  • Code used in the analysis must be part of the submission to assess technical proficiency and creativity.

Prizes: $10,000 CAD

  • 1st Place: $4,500 CAD
  • 2nd Place: $3,000 CAD
  • 3rd Place: $1,500 CAD
  • Special Prizes: $250 CAD each for the best performance in each category.

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection

  • Creativity: Emphasis on innovative approaches, creative design techniques, and storytelling in the visualization.
  • Impact: Evaluation of how well the visualization helps the audience understand the issue of misinformation and raises awareness, identifying types of misinformation addressing critical issues, and promoting critical thinking.
  • Data Analysis: Assessment of proper data processing, cleaning, and accurate representation in easily understandable visualizations. Visuals should be well-organized and appealing.
